Licensing of REv David Johnson

The licensing of Reverend David Johnson took place on Wednesday 13th March. It was a joyful and well-attended service with lots of representation from across the community. This really showcased how diverse the worshipping community of All Saints Church has become through Rev David's multiply work and it was an exciting start to the new season of ministry for the church under his new leadership.

Children & Youth Update - May 2024

Hello All

It has continued to be a joy settling into this new role, and in truth its almost 6 months since I started, but it all still feels very new.  I continue to learn so much and be so very grateful to the teams of brilliant volunteers who work tirelessly in all sorts of places to share the gospel with our children, young people and families all over our South Mowbray Deanery.

I have just returned from Godly play training, a 3-day course teaching me how to be a Godly play storyteller.  We are so blessed in Sowerby to have a Godly playroom and now that I am trained, we have 4 Godly play storytellers. It is such a special way to share our faith with our children and young people, sharing what’s important to us in a way that is accessible to them and giving them time to ponder and wonder about their faith for themselves. I look forward to being a more active part of the Godly play team now that I am trained.  If anybody is interested in learning more about Godly play or would like to become a volunteer for this please contact me as we are always looking for new people to become involved.

We are currently in the planning process for a new venture this summer.  This summer we are planning a programme of new events which will replace the Holiday club that has run for a large number of years in the parochial hall in Sowerby.  The Holiday club has been a fabulous gift for many years to the children and young people in Thirsk and Sowerby but for several reasons it has been decided that a different summer programme will take place this year.

As with the holiday club our new summer event programme is an inter church initiative, and we hope to have people from many churches coming together to enable it.

It will be open to all children young people and their families in the South Mowbray Deanery.  The aim is to offer a number of sessions spread throughout the school summer holidays, rather than holiday club which was all over 1 week.  These events will be for families to attend all together, with only children already in secondary school being able to attend without a parent of career.

More information on these events will follow soon once it is fully planned, but we are currently at the point of growing our volunteer team.  We are needing volunteers to help us with a variety of things, such as leading and volunteering during the sessions and providing refreshments.  We also have a number of background roles, for example - would anybody be able to help with admin and preparing for activities?

If you feel you could volunteer in any capacity, could you please get in contact with me, and I would love to talk with you more about what you might be able to help with. I’m hoping it really will be a lot of fun.

I continue to ponder Forest Church and wonder if this is something we could offer to families in our area. I wonder if this is something which could run well in some of our more rural churches. If you would like to be involved in this and or would like to host one at your church then please get in contact with me, I would love to talk about this with you.

CandY news, a weekly (during term time) newsletter for the whole South Mowbray Deanery that is emailed to families continues to grow.  If you have any events happening that you would like to be on this newsletter, please email me and I will add it on.  Also, if you know of any families who would like to receive it please give them my details and ask them to contact me. This newsletter is covering the whole of the South Mowbray Deanery.

And finally, I ask for you to please pray all our children, young people and families in this area, and for this vital work of sharing the Gospel with them that I am privileged to be involved in.  Please pray that we do the Lords will, will be done, in all we do.

Thank you
