DEANERY NEWS
Licensing of REv David Johnson
The licensing of Reverend David Johnson took place on Wednesday 13th March. It was a joyful and well-attended service with lots of representation from across the community. This really showcased how diverse the worshipping community of All Saints Church has become through Rev David's multiply work and it was an exciting start to the new season of ministry for the church under his new leadership.
Children & Youth Update
It is my joy and privilege to be able to fill the role of children, youth and families worker for St Oswald’s and the South Mowbray Deanery. I started in post in December, which was a busy month to start, and I enjoyed meeting so many people at all the services in the build up to Christmas. January and February have flown by as I have continued to meet many new people and settle into the role.
Since starting the job I have enjoyed seeing and becoming involved in all the already established work going on. It’s exciting to see such dedicated and skilled volunteers giving their best so the gospel can be passed onto the next generation in this area. The Open the Book assemblies continue in four local primary schools and it’s wonderful to see the teams who do this bringing the gospel to life in such an accessible way to more than five hundred children living in this area. The Sunday evening youth group is a special place to be, I have really enjoyed becoming involved in this group and have learnt so much from the volunteers and the young people who attend. The parent and toddler group Little Wonders continues to thrive, and it’s a joy to see so many young children with their parents and carers coming every week for an hour and a half of fun and fellowship.
We are just in early planning for the next Messy Church in Sowerby which will be on Good Friday and for family activity sessions which will run during the school summer holidays. If you felt you would like to be part of any of the teams running any of these activities please contact me, as we are always looking for new volunteers, and it’s honestly a lot of fun.
Since starting this role I have set up a weekly newsletter called CandY (Children and Young people) news. This is a weekly newsletter which I send out during term time in which I aim to give information on all the activities that are being organized by churches in the South Mowbray deanery area for children, young people and their families. If you are planning any events which you would like advertised, please send me the details and I will put them on this newsletter. If you know of any parents or carers who would like to receive this newsletter, then please ask them to email me and I will add them to the mailing list.
I look forward to meeting more of you over the coming months. If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything related to children and young people in our church community then please contact me and we can arrange to meet up.
